Pastor Brandon Salyer - Beginning September 2026

I’m honored to have the opportunity to serve as Pastor of Waukee Baptist Church. For the past five years, I served as Students & Missions Pastor at Central Baptist Church in Johnson City, Tennessee. Prior to ministry, I spent five years as a schoolteacher in Reno, Nevada, and Fort Worth, Texas — and it was while teaching 5th graders in Hurst, Texas, that I felt God calling me into ministry. I followed that call to Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in the fall of 2019 and finished my M.Div. in Biblical Theology this past December.
My wife, Abbey, and I have been married since March 2015, and we have three wonderful kids — David, Mackenzie, and Elijah. If the doors of the church are open, you can probably find them chasing each other through the hallways. When I’m not with my family or the congregation, you’ll usually find me reading sports books, going on very slow runs, or just soaking in the beauty of God’s creation.
One scripture that has anchored my faith for a long time is Lamentations 3:22–23: “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end;
