John begins by telling the reader that he was an eyewitness to Jesus life, death, and resurrection. He wants us to know the truth of the gospel and to experience a personal relationship with God, and to be confident that we know Him. John wants us to expereince the same complete joy that he has in his relationship with God through Christ.
